Andrea Mastrovito, Cinzia Benigni

Manabile per giovani artisti

8,00

A sincere, light-hearted and concrete reflection on art education in Italy, born from Andrea Mastrovito’s desire to fix and share some thoughts on what is useful and what is not for a student just enrolled in an Academy of Fine Arts.

Thinking back first to his beginnings and then to today’s international recognition as an artist and sometimes as a teacher, the author shares reflections with some fellow artists, a curator, a gallery owner and a journalist but, above all, he involves a group of students from the Academy of Carrara in Bergamo in a workshop and in a provocative questionnaire to confront them with their deep motivations and their career expectations.

The book presents the direct experiences of Andrea Mastrovito, Luca Francesconi and Gian Maria Tosatti in three stories that unveil their first steps into the Italian art system; a text by Cinzia Benigni, co-curator of the project; three final interventions by Marco Enrico Giacomelli, journalist and philosopher, Stefano Raimondi, curator, and Thomas Brambilla, gallery owner. All authors belong to the same generation.

The book also includes a selection of works by students created during the course and an appendix dedicated to an unpublished series on paper by Andrea Mastrovito, which ironically investigates the delicate triple relationship between artist, work and reality.
