Il libro raccoglie un dialogo silenzioso fra versi e disegni di pianure solitarie e inabitate, realizzati con solo inchiostro nero. Influenzandosi reciprocamente, il gesto del disegnare e dello scrivere si scambiano evocazioni e memorie. I disegni raccolgono le visioni che si presentano lungo l\u2019autostrada A4, verso est, il mare, \u201cVerso la foce\u201d (per citare Gianni Celati, sorta di nume tutelare dei due autori \u201cnarratori delle pianure\u201d), verso il Polesine e verso sud, guardando dal finestrino destro della macchina, per tutte le estati dell\u2019infanzia. Le parole dettano invece un ritmo interiore che sa di terra, di umidit\u00e0, di animali, piante e stagioni. Vibrano nel vuoto degli spazi bianchi, degli \"a capo\" densi come mancanze e memorie vivide, osservando \u201cla curvatura del tempo\u201d, \u201cfermo e regolare\u201d. In quella pianura che \u201ccostringe alla resa \/ come poche altre cose: \/ il buio, la notte, l\u2019amore, la morte\u201d.
