This collection of projects developed by students of the “Advanced Landscape Design Studio” course at Politecnico di Milano, led by Professor Paolo Belloni, addresses the challenges of territorial and landscape design, focusing on key concepts such as reuse, regeneration, and recycling.
Aware that the environment we live in has been deeply shaped by human activity, generating a series of abandoned places, the approach suggested by the course goes beyond the more illusory strategy of restoring the state of these places, instead promoting their recovery and transformation. A deeper and more sustainable approach interprets the result of human-induced transformation as a historical testimony to be reinterpreted.
The case study presented in this collection concerns the project of a gravel quarry in Calusco d’Adda beside the banks of a river, along whose course significant infrastructural interventions have stratified over the centuries, determining the charm and identity of these places, which represent the most evident testimony of the possibility of dialogue between nature and artifice.
