Two one-of-a-kind books, born of rare dedication and a profound love for music and for one of its most quietly influential protagonists: Gianni “Marok” Maroccolo.
Il Sonatore di Basso brings together 104 bass lines, meticulously transcribed and handwritten in both standard notation and tablature by Mur Rouge, musician and passionate devotee, who succeeds in translating onto the page the sonic soul of an entire career. A work that is at once philological and emotional, it spans the many artistic seasons of Maroccolo — from Litfiba to CSI, from Marlene Kuntz to his solo projects — capturing the deep breath of a truly unmistakable style. Created to mark Gianni Maroccolo’s 50 years in music, this volume is simultaneously a tribute, a document, and a practical tool: a living testimony to the journey of an artist who has carved indelible grooves into Italian music. For those who play, for those who study, for those who listen. For those who know that the bass can tell stories.
With an introductory prelude by Telmo Pievani. Afterwords by Mur Rouge and Giuseppe Pionca.
Memorie di un Sonatore di Basso is a journey through music, memories, and emotions of an artist who shaped an era. Neither an autobiography nor a conventional book, it is a living, intimate, at times ironic and always sincere narrative in which Gianni Maroccolo retraces his extraordinary musical and human adventure. From his first steps in the Florentine underground to the most prestigious stages; from the bands he was part of to collaborations — such as with Claudio Rocchi — and the difficult choices along the way. A mosaic of anecdotes, encounters, and reflections, where passion for music intertwines with the emotions of a life lived without compromise. A work that speaks to those who loved — and still love — the sound of a generation, and to those who believe that music is not just notes, but a bridge between souls. A book for those who listen with their hearts and for those who never stop seeking beauty.
Introductory prelude by Telmo Pievani. Prologue-preface by Sacha Naspini. Afterword by Giovanni Lindo Ferretti. Cover illustration by Lionello Nardon.
